Penang, 1860. Five sisters, one season, and an orange thrown without a name.

What you are joining

Kapitan's Daughters follows the five Gan sisters of Penang across five books, through four weddings, one rivalry between two kongsi houses, and the riots of August 1867. Interest and Principle is Book One. It is out on 15 November 2026.

The letter goes out about once a month, sometimes twice near a release. It carries what I am working on, what the research turned up, and the pieces of 1860s Penang that were too good to leave in a footnote.

Advance review copies

Before release I will invite subscribers to request a free advance copy through Booksprout. Places are limited. If you take one, I ask only for an honest review once you have read it, whatever you think of the book, and that you mention you received a free advance copy.

Tick the box above if you would like to hear about it. You can join the letter without it.

Every historical note here has been researched as carefully as we know how — but Sarah is a novelist, not a historian, and history keeps more detail than any one reader can catch. If you know something that would make this richer or more exact, tell us, and we will keep improving it for whoever comes next.
