Privacy

What happens to an email address given to this site, in plain terms.

What is collected

If you join the letter, the sign-up form collects your email address, optionally your first name, whether you ticked the advance review copy box, and which link brought you here, so I know whether a sign-up came from the website, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook or Threads. The email platform also records the country a sign-up came from.

Nothing else. There is no account to create and no payment taken on this site.

What it is used for

To send you Chapter One, and to send the Kapitan's Daughters letter: news about the books, the research behind them, and the micro-drama. If you ticked the advance review copy box, you will also be invited to request a free advance copy before release.

Your address is never sold, rented or passed to anyone for their own marketing.

How consent works

Sign-up is double opt-in. After you submit the form you will receive an email asking you to confirm, and nothing further is sent unless you do. This is also how the list meets the consent requirement of the Australian Spam Act 2003 and, for readers in the United Kingdom and the European Union, the UK GDPR and GDPR.

Every email carries a working unsubscribe link and the sender's identity. Unsubscribing takes one click and takes effect immediately. You may also ask for a copy of what is held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to the address below.

Where the data is held

The list is held by the email platform named in the sign-up confirmation, under their own terms and security. I do not keep a separate copy.

Measurement

This site uses Metricool to count visits. It is cookie-free and does not identify individual readers. There is no advertising network on this site and no third-party tracking beyond that count and the embedded video players on the drama page, which are governed by YouTube's own terms.

Getting in touch

For anything on this page, write to the contact address at the foot of any page on this site.

Every historical note here has been researched as carefully as we know how — but Sarah is a novelist, not a historian, and history keeps more detail than any one reader can catch. If you know something that would make this richer or more exact, tell us, and we will keep improving it for whoever comes next.
