Names are those in official use in 1867. Penang was then Prince of Wales Island, a British settlement since 1786; Malacca had been British since the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824; Singapore had been a British port since 1819. On 1 April 1867, in the last months this series covers, all three passed from the India Office to the Colonial Office and became the Crown Colony of the Straits Settlements.
